Feeling Overhwhelmed: Learning to Rely on God in Difficult Seasons

Feeling Overwhelmed

Learning to Rely on God in Difficult Seasons

There’s something vulnerable about sitting down to write words that are meant to encourage others.

Truthfully, I struggled with this blog post. I didn’t know where to go next. I didn’t know what to say. And maybe that’s because I never wanted these words to simply be my own.

One of my daily prayers has always been this:
“God, shrink me so that You can be seen through me.”

Through my words.
Through my actions.
Through everything I do.

But if I’m being honest, even the weight of that prayer started to feel overwhelming.

This year has been one of the hardest seasons my family and I have ever faced. Yet somehow, in the middle of uncertainty, stress, and difficult moments, here we are… building a business.

Not just any business, either. A business we truly believe can impact the Kingdom of God.

That realization alone can feel heavy sometimes.

Because when you genuinely want people to encounter God through what you create, you suddenly become very aware of your own limitations. You start wondering if you’re capable enough, wise enough, strong enough, or equipped enough.

And that’s where overwhelm creeps in.

But something beautiful happens when people begin sharing their stories honestly. You realize you are not alone.

Your struggle may not look exactly like mine, but the emotions often feel the same. Fear. Anxiety. Pressure. Uncertainty. Exhaustion.

And yet, God designed us to encourage one another through those moments.

That’s why I love 2 Corinthians so much, especially when Paul writes:

“For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.”
— 2 Corinthians 1:5

Paul understood suffering. He understood pressure. He understood feeling stretched beyond human strength.

In fact, later in the chapter, Paul admits there was a moment where they felt so overwhelmed that they thought they were going to die.

But what stands out to me most is what came after.

Paul realized they had to stop relying on themselves and learn to rely completely on God.

That’s the lesson.

Sometimes overwhelm is the very thing that reveals where our dependence truly is.

We were never meant to carry every burden alone.
We were never meant to have every answer.
And honestly? We can’t do this by ourselves anyway.

Our Savior is the One we rely on.

So when anxiety starts rising… give it over to Him.
When the future feels uncertain… give it over to Him.
When the pressure feels unbearable… give it over to Him.

Because God never asked us to sustain ourselves. He asked us to trust Him.

Even now, as I finish typing these words, I can honestly say the anxiety is beginning to pass.

Maybe not all at once. Maybe not instantly. But slowly, peace is replacing panic.

And one day, somewhere within these 365 days of the year, this season will look different than it does right now.

Until then, I will continue relying on God.

And maybe you should too.
